It is possible. I got a friend who built a laser that melted things. Mostly dark things, cause they burn easier, but still. If you can make a laser melt something, you can probably make one that can work like a lightsaber.

I think the problem right now is powering it...

There is no way you can place enough power in a lightsaber handle. You need a lot of power constantly...

I hear some people are trying plasma...

You could make a lightsaber work but how would you make a laser that only extends 5 or so feet then stops? Also, you would definately need an unstable element to make the laser work. It might be possible somewhere in the future, but not right now.

Someday.. in the future no one will use arrows or knives or swords... it will be a lightsaber battle.. and no more bullets.. only tazers and laser guns will be used!!
