I have changed the default forum skin to the vBulletin default for a reason. AOL members have had trouble joining because some of the images on the Afterdark skin won't load. The Default skin is non-image based, so now that it's the default, they might not have troubles joining.
You can change your skin at the bottom of the screen with the skin selector, or you can change it from "Edit Options" in "UserCP".
