IMHO, GTA : Vice City is the best Grand Theft Auto ever released. I find it to be a great portrayal of not only the story of the underdog rising above the rest, but the cocaine rush of the 70's-80's. The game is very historically accurate; Little Haiti, Little Havana, these were areas in Miami where the Cubans and Hatians stockpiled when they drifted in from their respective islands. I love how almost everyone that's seemingly another average person is getting a piece of the pie. A great quote from Scarface to sum up the point of Vice City ;
" This town...it's like a great big pussy, just waitin' to get ****ed. "
You start fresh out of the slammer, and to get back into the groove of things, you're going to do a simple cocaine deal in Florida( I'm assuming it's Florida, as VC is a replica of Miami and Tommy's always saying " Dumb Florida Morons "), but as you soon find out, you were set up. With Lance's brother dead, Tommy without the money, and even worse, without the cocaine, you have no choice but to start from the bottom and work your way up. At first, your intentions are simply to repay Sonny Forrelli, and get the **** out of town. But with money comes power, and with power comes respect, and with money, power, and respect comes envy, and when those around you are envious, greed manifests; Not a grubby, " OOOO I need munny lol!!! " greed...A primal rage, a lusting, a yearning to conquer. You must take over this town; from robbing stores for a measly 1000 dollars a piece, to picking up your money every day from each one of your assets. The only things you need to succeed in Vice City are money and connections, and Tommy happens to know where to find both.
While some may argue that San Andreas is a better game because it is rich in features and graphically enhanced, I stand firm; I Felt SA was an amalgamation of every " Gangsta In The Hood " movie, and then halfway through the game that concept is thrown out the window and from then on out it's nothing but seemingly random missions and work from random people until you avenge your dead mother, whom I forgot even EXISTED by the time I hit the boones in the back of that cop car. This is only my opinion, of course, the game's decent, but it really didn't bring anything to the table for me. Swimming, and the camera were about all it had on 3 and VC.
Back to Vice City...I guess I love it so much cause I'm a big fan of the 60s, 70s and 80s, from music to movies to the cultural standards and fashion statements. Either way, Vice City is a great game, and should be played and completed 100% by everyone. Lolz. ZIGd.
