US Copyright Office grants abandonware rights

It's now legal to crack abandonware titles. It's not legal to distribute them, but no one really gets in any trouble for it from what I can tell. Why isn't that legal, though? It's not like anyone is making money off of the games anymore. Who loses anything?
Oh, also, it's now legal to crack software locks on cell phones, so you can use a cell phone on another company's service. People were already doing that regardless of copyright law too.

WTF? Sharing abandonware is illegal? >_>...I know some sites that are pretty strict about which games they do and do not share(they mostly host ISOs for consoles), but they absolutely won't host PC games unless they're abandonware. Looks like that logic isn't really very..logical. Might have to have a talk with them. Awesome@the Cell Phone part too even tho I dont have one.

I think it's pretty widely accepted that people host whatever abandonware they want, regardless of the actual legality, but remove games at the copyright holder's request.
