I am considering purchasing a Wii but I'm wondering if it's worth all the money. I just heard that Wii 2 is supposed to come out in 2010 or 2011. Spending $250 on a Wii plus the hundreds I would spend for the games (like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Wii Fit) seems like a gigantic waste of money. I remember spending a lot on a Nintendo and Sega Genesis in the '90s and then shortly after I bought them they became obsolete. I expect that to happen with the advancing technology but I think I have a tendency to hold off too long on buying them to save money. Then when I finally do get one they're on the verge of becoming obsolete and I don't have knowledge of that.

So, do you think it would be worth it to buy a Wii now? Does anyone know whether Wii 2 games could be played on a Wii? I think my big problem with game consoles in the 90s is that once a new one came out (like SNES) you couldn't play those games on NES. But if I could play Wii 2 games on Wii, that wouldn't be so bad, even if it was lacking in quality because it was an older console.

I'd really appreciate opinions on this. Honestly, $250 is a LOT to spend on a game console, at least to me anyway. Heck, I think $15 is too much to spend on jeans. :D  :toilet: :pimp: :?

Lol as far as i know, you can never play a game of a new console on an older console.

Anyway, get a Wii. I did it aswell. Plus you can sell them for still a high price.
I never bought a game thought, i softmodded my Wii so i just download games, burn them and voilá.

Yeah I saw a mod for that and thought it might be a cheaper alternative. Also, better to mod because it's cheaper to buy too.

You can softmod it yourself, as long as you haven't updated with the latest update. Takes only 10 minutes maximum ^^
All you need is the Zelda game to start the softmodding, just borrow it from a buddy or something.

Actually E.V. , Softmodding is okay, the warranty stays intact. Mainly because you never changed something to your Wii ;)

If you use something like a WiiKey(wich is another chip in your Wii) means you changed something to the hardware + you opened the Wii. Then your warranty is gone.

Softmod is just a new channel that you install. Channels are allowed to be installed onto your Wii. Your warranty stays intact!

Softmodding "Software Modding".
It's just as i said in the previous post. You install a new channel on your Wii, wich allows you to play copied/burned games =p

You need Zelda so you can glitch onto the Wii, to import the files.
When thats done, you get a new channel, with that channel you can install the Back-up Channel.
The name says it already, thats what you use to play copied/burned games ^^

So when I opened up my wii, messed with the wiring, and turned it into a bomb, I voided the warranty? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ E.V. I think you can get your warranty from Jihad then =p

@ Nitz, you'd be surprised what can fit on the Wii ;) nah you're right, it isn't big at all. But yes, all of that is stored on the Wii itself, it isn't that big at all.
You don't need another HD no. But if you're planning to play games from an HD instead of burned DVD's, then you can do that.

I actually got the console back then. I really enjoyed playing on it for a while before I got another one. The money was worth it in case others are worried about the price.
