There were 3 units from starcraft in warcraft 3, the marine, zergling and hydra. So was that supposed to be a hint that sc2 was coming next? To be honest the 3D models were very 'blocky', they didnt look very impressive at all.

I also remember there were Firebats, or something like that. There's this battle at the end of the credits or something, and there were flamethrowers aswell.

In the second mission for the Nightelves in the original War3 campaign, you can find a Hydralisk in the forest to the north, and he joins your cause.

I think they were just included as an afterthought as a small nod towards thei last huge success. It wouldn't be the first time Blizzard threw in an easter egg like that. They probably didn't spend too much time on the design because at the time it was a "throw-away unit".

When the texture artists saw the lowpoly zerglings, they were like: "Oh come on! What the hell! Is this a cube? Gimme some shape, man, god dammit!"

the marines were cool. i had always thought of the ling as a huge misinterpretation of what they were supposed to look like. they looked more like the wc3 unit felhound with a little diff color and texture. more of a rhino/demon than an insect/raptor (as i had always imagined them). And the hydra was bad, i mean BAD, it looked like a worm with a face and the mouth sucked. it's attack was like gas out of vents. insted of spines from a poutch.

I ddnt like them.

and the flamer was an orc firebat. something reminescent of warhammer 40k, where there are races like orcs, elves, dwarves, and goblins, but it's way in the future of wc3, im talk'n like space travel future.

Yeah. There are more such as Goliaths and Wraiths and all of the other units, but those were all user-made mods. They don't look nearly as nice as the Blizzard-mdae ones and have no fluid motions. Looks very similar to the Command & Conquer Mod. Unlike that mod, Blizzard doesn't care about removing it (it was intended to be there anyways), so it still exists on the Battle.net servers if you can find it. I have seen my brother play games of Starcraft in Warcraft III Graphics. Personally, I think they are crap, but it might be fun to check it out.

lol, yeah, they must. I think the problem was that they forgot to actually change the unit models to flying. They appeared to be air units, but for all intents and purposes they were considered the same as ground units.

It was actualy just the flying buildings they could attack. They probably used the same thing as the uproot for night elf buildings and changed the graphics.

lol, true. the zerglings even have wings (although small ones). I think it is kinda cool to see them jumping along the ground after their prey.

i think its bad...u know i always wanted zergs to move like the aliens from alien. making them hop around makes them a lot less scary...and did you hear their attack sound now? sounds like an egg popping. dissappointed me so bad. what happened to the original one?

The individual zergling seems much less intimidating, but it adds to the feeling of a swarm. Just the look of a swarm jumping and flying towards you adds to the feeling of FUBAR.
