Thinking about getting a PS3

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 due to the "price drop" of the 60GB model to $500. The new 80GB PS3s also won't have the PS2's emotion engine inside, so that's another reason I'm seriously considering it. I want to get a PS3 with the "integrated PS2" while I still can. I'm aware that the new PS3s will still play PS2 and PS1 games, but it will rely on less reliable software emulation. That and 20 GB extra just isn't worth $100.
If Sony really wanted the new PS3 to be appealing, then they should have significantly upped the hard drive space to, say, 120GB at least. Cause I can always just add a bigger hard drive on my own.

So... any advice, ideas, or info to offer?

I haven't heard of that. Plus there are firmware updates. So it's not like buying a launch system. And the 80 GB model isn't even out anywhere except Korea. But thanks for the opinion.

I shall be getting it tonight. Originally, it was me and my brother splitting the price, but my dad agreed to help and my mom offered to help without being asked.

And a game.... probably either Destroy All Humans 2 for PS2 or Oblivion for PS3.

Wow... sold out at Wal-mart! I guess I should have expected that.
K-mart closes ridiculously early. They only stay open till 9 on Saturdays! I don't know about other days of the week though.
So... I didn't get one yet. And I didn't bother getting any games. We shall try some (more like many) other stores tomorrow.

Tell me when you get it, I'll add you. Or better yet just send me a friend request on PSN once you hook up your system to the internet. ReDDevil2112.

First of all, dont worry about your console being buggy. Mine, which I got in January (2 months after release) is running fine. Certainly better than the 360 I got one week before it.

Second of all, if you dont want to buy the 15$ adaptor to convert your Ps2 saves to Ps3, go to PS3gamesaves.net, register to the forum and go to the Ps2 Gamesaves section. They have gamesaves for you to use, including games like MGS3 and Devil May Cry 3. You can also request for a save to be put up, and the request are usually answered fairly quickly.

Lastly, games. May I recommend some? I havent gotten around to getting Ninja Gaiden Sigma yet, but the demo is awesome and I've heard good things about the full game. Full Auto 2 is a decent and underrated racer that's worth getting, just not at full price. Spiderman 3 is good if you were a fan of the second, though like Full Auto it isnt worth full price. Same goes for Motorstorm, alot of fun, but very limited and it will get stale after awhile, rent or buy cheap. Resistance obviously, me personally I thought it was pretty good though it seems far too overhyped. Still a good FPS. The Darkness I got yesterday from Gamefly, and that is alot of fun, though I cant see myself replaying it.

Demos for Lair and Heavenly Sword will come to PSN any day now, and a new firmware update (rumored to let you play your own music in games) is said to come out "early next week". The PSN Store usually updates every thursday at 5PM EST, though occasionaly they break the rules.

Lair is coming out soon and that looks interesting. What you REALLY need to look out for is Warhawk, coming late august/early september. Me and Agamo made it into the beta and it is A LOT of fun. A must buy. Then there is Playstation Home. You probably heard about that by now, and it comes out September 6th for free as a download on PSN. Now me and you and agamo can throw parties :)

Any other help and you can ask me.

All right. I got it today. Had to unhook everything cause all the PS2, TV, Wii, VCR, and other cables were tangled up. It's hooked up now though. I'm doing a software update now... which should take a while...

Wireless signal is only 35% strength, but hopefully that'll be good enough for the moment.

Haha, very nice Fox. Feel free to send me a friend request as well, my PSN name is RockWarrior. Be sure to check out the demos that are out on the store now, there's demos for Full Auto 2, Resistance Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, F1 Championship Edition, The Darkness (need an EU account and then download it from the European store), MotorStorm, and a few others I think.

Anyways, if you're into RPGs, definitely be sure to check out Oblivion if you haven't. The PS3 version of it comes with the Knights of the Nine built-in. I also really liked Rainbow Six Vegas, you might want to check that out too, if you're into shooters.

I have Oblivion. Haven't played it yet though. I've been too busy trying to get my wifi connection to work in Yellow Dog Linux. >_<

Wireless connection in YDL now works! I just need to fix up the odd resolution next... but I think I'm going to play Oblivion later today! Already started Destroy All Humans 2 earlier.

Alright, sounds good to me. Let me know how you're enjoying Oblivion whenever you get around to playing it, I'll give you a link to this really nice site that has all kinds of information about all of the Elder Scrolls games.

Or take my advice and kill every living creature in the game...

Seriously, I did that for the whole game on my PS3..not because I was bored..but because I already beat it on my 360 and I wanted to kill everything for once.

Congrats on the PS3..too bad my little cousin is borrowing it until the summer is over since he doesn't want one now and wants to use it.

Yeah. And from what I've heard, this game should have a high replay factor.

Why is the XMB background sometimes light blue and sometimes black? I wish I could change the color like you can on the PSP, but being able to add wallpaper is great!

It changes depending on the time of day. Morning the XMB will be vivid , but it will slowly dim, and fade to black.
