China has once again blocked a popular social networking web site, this time Twitter is on the latest block. China has been known in the recent past to block web sites like YouTube and even blocking Apple's iTunes and Amazon.

The strict and demanding country contains the world's largest population of Internet users and communities. China has blocked more than 6,000 web sites and blogs that China feels could spread negative word about itself, sparking protests. Bing.com, Live.com, hotmail.com, Blogger and now Flickr is another web site that has recently been blocked by China, preventing any access or sharing of photos from its people.

China has put blocks on how information is spread in its country after the 1989 Tiananmen Square protest. The anniversary of that date, July 4, is approaching soon, as China clamps down on live blogging web sites to prevent further incidents.

It is unclear if China will lift the bans after July 4 or at any time, but most Chinese residents are without the popular web sites like YouTube, Twitter, Blogger, Flickr and even newly launched Bing.com.

what's wrong with the chinese? why block those type of sites???

I don't get why though? They are one of the top leaders out there in the economy and stats show China to be #1 soon, possibly India at #2 and Usa at #3.

So, it makes no sense why they would do this? They would or SHOULD want to expand via e-commerce and USE the internet more widely....

They do use internet, they do expand via e-commerce, they make GOOD use of it.

To be honest, i think they are one of the smart countries out there, blocking that shit.
Let's take the most known one, YouTube. As far as i have seen so far, 90% of YouTube is filled with morons, idiots, and ****ing moronic idiots - making video's of whatever they smoked 5 minutes before.
Sure there are music video's, lecture video's, game trailers. But you can find those anywhere where you want.
YouTube is a corruption of the youth, taking over things. Remember that vid someone posted before on here, about a young little girl in her own room with her laptop recording herself singing some song, wich she shouldn't even know the meaning of? If there wasn't a YouTube, she wouldn't have done that :p

I'm not going to continue on this though, but IMO, they are making a smart move.

So true man.... best point made. There is a lot of crap posted on youtube. I think the main problem is there is NO way to control the content. Back when youtube started, you could control things from a management perspective. Now, shit is posted every second LOL.. impossible to monitor... I still view stuff... just trailers, music, shows I missed on tv etc... But not so much on what idiots make. I actually get pissed when I watch something and it's SUCH a waste of time, cause someone posts something trying to be all cool.

all in all it comes down to making sound decisions for yoruself. i use youtube for music videos mainly.. (and old greg..lol) i refuse to watch the retardation that random people post.

i guess china feels that thier people aren't smart enough to make thier own good decisions to watch and participate in things, so they are blocking it for them.. what a way to shelter them.. in my opinion, in the long run it will do more harm than good.

Maybe and maybe not... it depends I think... Sometimes not knowing or seeing something is a good thing. While sometimes, it's not because you feel like you shouldn't have been blocked from it. I don't think it's a global decision, but more personal.

lol, ok I'll scratch China from my travelling plans... not that it was there in the first place, loll. I kind of undertsand why they do it but there's something called "free will" We should be able to do our own choices without interfeering of government, I think. Oh well... I know I'd hate to be controlled like that.
