As we said before, there will still be choke points. Not every wall can be bypassed. Some are just too high or have nothing on the other side. I would think most starting bases would be easily defensible, but expanding becomes a bit more hazardous. And I personally like this idea. It's refreshing to see something new.

Thank you brainwasher5. I think this whole idea, when pulled off well, will be a very good addition to the game.

The added mobility is such a huge benefit that I'm sure the unit will cost quite a bit more than a unit with the same stats without the raid ability. This will make it a little harder to have a mass of them early game. They will probably only require an Academy to build.

Late game, they will probably become less useful because of their lack of return for their cost. The just become easier to counter as time goes on. Although it never hurts to have a battalion of Reapers in hiding so that you can ambush your opponent's army from both sides.

They seem to be very, very weak. Also, why is it that people attack Pylons first? A Photon Cannon has 1/3 of the life a Pylon has and they generally don't have more then a trio of cannons around them, unless people go crazy with them.

still, knocking that out means it disables all those photons means more reapers left alive. and stats may be changed. and they only added that part of the demonstration to show off that phase prism

My point is this:
3 photons have equal life and shields to one pylon. It would take only slightly longer to kill the photons because of the need to move closer. By killing the photons first, the damage being dealt to your army is reduced by 33% after the first cannon dies, then 66% after the second.

Let us assume that it takes 1 minute for a battalion to deal the required 600 damage to the photons (10 dps). Within 20 seconds the enemy firepower is reduced and again within 40 seconds. Therefore:
From 1-20 seconds 100% damage
From 21-40 seconds 66% damage
From 41-60 seconds 33% damage

Alternatively, attacking the pylon itself the forces take 100% sustained damage for 60 seconds.

This means by attack the Photon Cannons themselves you take approximately 2/3 of the damage from attacking the Pylon directly. If there are more than 3 Cannons, then it might be advantageous to attack the crystal, but if there is an overlap of crystal fields this provides more problems.

i dont know, back in starcraft 1 i tested it and now when i see a single pylon powering a bunch of photons i'd just concentrate fire on the pylons and the phtons go poof.

anyway, blizzard chose the pylon to be destroyed to show the phase prism's ability.

Another question: Can Reapers attack air? I don't think that they can. In every video they only attack ground units.

nope by hydralisk sure can though. i already have an answer to just a PHTON DEFENSE, SEND IN LINGS TO THE PYLON, with hydralisk behind to take out the plyon too. too many lings to stop my attack, and they are easily replaced.

Photons attack far too slow to take care of a ling attack and the Hydralisks just add to the much needed firepower.

I don't think the armies are any more massive than they were in the last game, but it is just easier to move them in formations and attack in unison with the new system.

Collossus are an effective counter to zerg... but what do terrans have? Siege tanks?

actually i would think that collosi AREN'T as good as blizzard is making it out....from what i've seen one sweep from a collosi takes several seconds (like 3) and only kill-what?6 zerglings? it would take 10 collosi to halt a zergling wave as large as what i've seen from the vids, and even then im betting 3 or 4 of them would get destroyed. 10 reavers on the other hand, in sc1, could probably stop any land force in the game, and siege tanks have a longer range and faster firing rate than reavers. my conclusion is that siege tanks are better than the collosi in almost every form.
