I think that in my 7ish years of playing Starcraft ( I haven't touched it since 2005 ), the units which I've used the least have got to be:

- Vulture, Firebat and Valkyrie for Terran;

- Mutalisk, Ultralisk for Zerg;

- Reaver, High Templar and Scout for Protoss;

How about you?

I agree with the valkyrie for terran.. its usefulness was very limited.. vulture and firebat, though, I used a bit. especially the vulture for spidermines. they're so cheap, yet so devasting.

Ultralisk, yes. Mutalisk, hell no. Aside from the zergling, I would say the mutalisk is my favorite unit.. I would often kill people by doing a muta rush...

Hmmm protoss is hard. I think I'll have to go with the reaver though. high templars are too good at killing scvs and zerglings :D. (of course.. reavers are too.. they're just too damn slow)

depends on what you mean by 'lease favourite'. I hate the carriers cuz they own everything in their path (and really kill the game).

My least used unit... has to be firebat

Well they're actually pretty easy to dispose of if you know their coming. All you really have to do is target each of them individually and they'll go down alot faster. Mind you whatever massive army you had will be gone as well but at least whatever they were they're alot cheaper. And no I'm not saying a shit load of marines will do the trick. :) More like wraiths, corsairs, scouts, mutralisks, devours.

I use Carriers a lot, and I agree, Scourges are a pain in the tailpipe.

Overall, it seems like the Valkyrie and the Reavers are pretty much disliked.

Just thought of another least favorite protoss unit... or at least under-utilized. I never really used the dark archon.. it seems it turned out to be more of a novelty unit than anything. A lot of matches I played never even got to the point where having one would be useful

The dark archon is amazing for its mind control ability. First I control a drone, then a scv. This gives you 3 races to fight with (and 600 units, instead of just 200!!).

Absolutely amazing, and one of the reasons why the protoss are just too strong in starcraft.

yeah but how many times have you actually used the DA? I know I rarely did. The only reason I ever did was to mess around with someone in a reeeally drawn out game..

My least favorite unit is actually the Observer. It is not that it is a bad unit, so much as it seems to require far too much teching for what seems a vital part of protoss recon. Having to go out of your way to build a building just for this unit seems a bit of a high price. I usually just can't use them because of this.

As for dark Archons, they can make for some amazing plays. Maelstrom + Psionic storm is SO devastating it is laughable. A group of Mind controls turns a fleet of carriers right back on their builder.

One of my favorite units in Starcraft is the simple Zealots units.
When they have upgrated speed, they can defend very easily base from many types of units (zerglings, tanks).
Very cheap, very fast to made, very destructible when it comes to a close fight, very fast, and they have a solid armour.

I think the zealots are too expensive for being a ground-only attack unit. Its true that they are very strong when upgraded, but then, their upgrades are quite expensive, particularly the protoss shield upgrade.

When i play protoss, i almost never use zealots ... although i must admit, they are the only small unit that can easily take out tanks.

Yes, this thread is meant for least favorite units.

Another unit I do not use is the Zerg Defiler. He has some awesome potential with his plague and dark swarm abilities... Not to mention an infinite supply of energy through devour. But by the time I have the tech tree to acquire him I can already have many cheaper alternatives without researching all of his abilites and shelling out the cash for a Defiler Mound. If he were available with just a lair, he would probably be a staple of my army. Instead, I toss him into obscurity.

As a side note, I don't think the Crystalis counts. Most of us here are refering to online games.

i'd have to say that in the protoss, i really don't like the reaver. they're not good enough for assaulting because they're too slow, and not great for defense because of lousy rate of fire and range. okay, sure they have the second longest range for a ground unit, but they're beaten out by possibly the best terran ground unit, the siege tank in siege mode, and the siege tank will just rip a reaver apart.

for the zerg i'd have to say the defiler and ultralisk, since these are two units that are just not, well, zerg. a big brutish brawler doesn't seem to fit into zerg fighting style. and the defiler doesn't really figure much in battles because of the tech involved.

i don't really like firebats and vultures in terran, simply because there are much better units that would take up my supply.

I'm not sure on this, but I think (with a long enough line of sight) that reavers can attack siege tanks from out of their range. maybe they just did not have sight of me while I did this.

Also, there is no "zerg". It is revealed at some point in the campaign that the zerg themselves are a parasitic race that assimilates any type of creature they find useful into their ranks. The only "true" zerg would be the Overmind, the Cerebrates, and the Overlords. Ultralisks, I would presume, were once the peaceful Ursadons you see wandering around or some other simple creature. Defilers, possibly, Scantids. A good example of this is the Infested Terran, absorbed into the ever-growing ranks of the swarm.

You guys diss on my ultras and valkaries too much man, with metabolic synthesis, and chitinous plating, they kikass. not to mention the fact that valkaries are totally kikassbadfucking awesome.

my leasts are the queens, (broodlings = too mush mana, ensnare = not slow enough for me) the firebats (only useful early game) and the dragoon (CLUNKY AS HELL and big, so lings beat the hell out of em), now immortals, different story completely.

btw, i also think tanks have equal range with reavers (and gaurdians)
