I absolutely agree with you Cloud. There is far too much hype surrounding the book, and indeed the movie. It is my belief that there is very little in this book which distinguishes it above other books of a similar nature. Without the controversial topic and the random snippets of information relating to Langdon's profession, it would basically be a generic detective novel.
Moreover, it is written in a way that requires a low reading age, though people feel the book is intelligent, when in fact it is not.
I also watched the film, which was moderately good, though with the high proportion of action in the film, this only emphasized for me that this was ultimately a embellished detective novel.
